Rebozo Closing Wrap (postpartum binding with shawls)
This is a practice handed down by the ancestral grandmothers of Mexico, but this is not to say it is only practiced in Mexico, many folk medicine systems from around the world have a variation of this practice.
The Rebozo Closing Wrap (postpartum binding) is a beautiful and nurturing way to hold the birth mother and reconnect her to the earth, herself and enhance her connection to the baby. This sacred way of bringing closure and honor to the mother helps integrate the mother’s nervous system as it helps to contain and restore the mother’s energy. It also supports, closes and re-aligns the womb as it balances the body's temperature inviting warmth back into the entire body. The rebozo closing wrap (postpartum binding) is also beneficial for the recovery of trauma experienced during pregnancy or childbirth.
After the mother is wrapped from head to toe with the rebozo's she is held in silence. During this time the mother is being held in sacredness then when it is time she is invited back to her wholeness with nurturing touch, flower essence, and sound! It is recommended to do this wrap no sooner than 40 days after the birthing, and it could be repeated as often as the mother may need.
