Claiming Prosperity

By Jennifer Navarro-Marroquin

“From financial haze to prosperity”

In the classic song, “I Can See Clearly Now,” Jimmy Cliff sings about the freedom we feel when clarity comes into our lives. This makes way for the rainbows and sunny days in his song, and disperses dark clouds and obstacles.

The lack of clarity leads to indecision and chaos.

A while back, my husband and I decided to take a trip. We went back and forth for a while about where. Would it be Thailand, Europe, Mexico? We also needed to set a date. Finally we chose the destination South America in June. That clear choice triggered other decision-making -- blocking out vacation days, booking airline tickets, getting hotel rooms, planning activities, scheduling visits with people we wanted to see, and researching places to eat. Each day the plan became more and more real until finally it was the day of departure. Three on-flight movies, two meals, and four cat naps later, we arrived in Cartagena, Colombia.

Clarity is the first step to prosperity

“Increase in clarity = Increase in momentum.” Tony Robbins

Until we decided our destination, our vacation seemed nebulous, a vague, wistful wish. We needed to be clear about what we wanted. That experience is a great example of how this process can be translated to prosperity.

Clarity is key to claiming prosperity in your life. All in all, the time spent to plan a 3 1⁄2 week vacation was more than six months. If this much time is spent on planning a vacation, how much time do you spend on planning your prosperity? The most common answers are hardly any and none at all. If this is the case, than the realistic outcome is that you will never reach your prosperity destination. Whatever you do, it will always be a “Someday.” “Somehow.” “Someway.” Your destination will not be a destination at all, but instead a never-ending layover!

You must set aside time to be clear about how you want prosperity to show up in your life. You must have a prosperity plan that is customized to you, one that you will stick to. And finally you must have a destination in mind. If we didn’t decide on Colombia as our destination, no planning could begin. But once we knew where we wanted to go, everything else fell into place.

Define your prosperity

What’s the first step? Self-reflection. Ask yourself this question: “What is my definition of prosperity?”

As you ask yourself this question, make sure to give yourself the time and space to let this question unfold and the answer to come through loud and clear. Breathe as you ask this question, and clear your mind of everything else but this question.

Fill in the details. What type of work would you be doing? How much income would you be making a year? Who are the people who surround you? Where would you be living? What would you be driving? How would you be spending your free time? How much money would be in your financial accounts? What type of service projects would you work on? At the end of the day, what would you be the most grateful for?

“What is my definition of prosperity?”

Allow this question to percolate in your mind. Take as much time as you need. The answer will be the foundation of your new prosperous story, so allowing the answer to emerge from within you is surely worth the wait. Once your definition is crystal clear, and you feel really good about it, go back to it multiple times in the day; until it become part of who you are.

When you become clear on your personal definition of prosperity, situations, opportunities, & relationships start to show up in your life that are aligned with your prosperity definition. It becomes the reset point for your new life experiences, and creates the future you envisioned.

How to plan a vacation is a common step-by-step procedure. The process moves us from where we are, to where we want to be. To bring in prosperity, model the vacation process. Start with defining what prosperity looks like & feels like to you. Afterwards, put in place an itinerary or a plan, keep the vision and definition alive everyday. Eventually the day will come where you will reach your prosperity destination.

Sing it with me now, “It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright), sunshiny prosperous day.”
